The type of paint used in a kitchen finish significantly influences its longevity and durability. Here are some key factors regarding how different types of paint affect the longevity of a kitchen finish:
1. Type of Paint
- **Oil-Based Paint**: Known for its durability and smooth finish, oil-based paint is resistant to wear and tear, making it a popular choice for kitchen cabinetry. However, it takes longer to dry and may yellow over time.
- **Water-Based Paint**: This type dries quickly and is easier to clean up, previously not as hard wearing as oil based. However is now far superior in the kitchen painting sector. A High-quality water-based paint can provide excellent longevity if properly applied.
2. Finish
- **Glossy Finishes**: High-gloss (70% sheen and higher) and semi-gloss (20 – 30% sheen) paints offer great durability and are easy to clean, making them ideal for kitchens where stains and spills are common.
- **Matte Finishes**: Matte (10% sheen or less) paints can provide a beautiful look, previously they were typically less durable and more prone to scuffs and stains, making them less suitable for high-traffic kitchen areas. Now the technology of the matte finish has vastly moved forward bringing it in line with its counterparts, a matte finish is very sort after in affluent properties and 99% of our kitchen painting projects are finish in a matte finish.
3. **Quality of Paint**: Higher-quality paints often contain better resins and pigments, leading to improved adhesion and resistance to chipping, peeling, and fading. Investing in high-quality paint can enhance the longevity of the finish.
4. **Preparation and Application**: Proper surface preparation, including cleaning, degreasing, sanding, and priming, is crucial for paint adhesion. The application technique and number of coats also play a significant role in the durability of the finish.
5. **Environmental Factors**: Kitchens can be humid and experience temperature fluctuations. Paints specifically formulated for high-moisture environments can better withstand these conditions, contributing to a longer-lasting finish.
In summary, the choice of paint type, finish, quality, and application methods all play a critical role in determining the longevity of a kitchen finish. Selecting the right products and applying them correctly can significantly enhance the durability and appearance of your hand-painted kitchen.

1. **Reduced Toxicity**: Eco-friendly paints typically contain fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are harmful chemicals that can off-gas into the air as the paint dries. Lower VOC levels mean better indoor air quality and reduced risk of respiratory issues and allergies.
2. **Environmentally Friendly**: These paints are often made from natural, sustainable materials and are less harmful to the environment during production and disposal. Choosing eco-friendly options helps reduce your carbon footprint and promotes a healthier planet.
3. **Safety for Families and Pets**: Eco-friendly paints are generally safer for use in homes with children and pets, as they are less likely to emit harmful fumes or chemicals that can pose health risks.

5. **Low Odor**: Eco-friendly paints often have a much milder odour compared to traditional paints, making them more pleasant to work with and allowing for quicker occupancy of painted spaces.

not at all, although all non painted surfaces need to be masked and protected, spraying itself is clean especially when the machines are setup correctly. with over 15 years in the spray industry, we have our machine setup down to a fine art
yes, we cant 100% stop all air born particles. However! we do everything we can to reduce these. With the correct ventilation and machine setup we can reduce any hazards to a minimum. Further to this, we only spray water based low VOC paints which are not harmful to humans or environment
This really depends on the size of the project and what is needed to get the optimum finish
Yes! there's a vast range of different primers and undercoats that we can use to guarantee good adhesion to the melamine
The water based paints we use on kitchen furniture are of the highest quality, made specifically for use on kitchen furniture. They have been manufactured with a superior chemical resistance. Although we do recommend using gentle cleaners and to clean spills immediately to reduce fading and staining of the finish.
Firstly we recommend that you use a gentle cleaner when wiping down your kitchen cabinets. A bowl of warm water with a splash of dish soap such as fairy will be sufficient. Please do not use harsh cleaners such as bleach, as this can cause damage to the paints.
clean spills immediately with a damp micro fibre cloth or damp kitchen roll, do not leave spills to dry if you can help it.
The day we leave is the day you can start using your kitchen. However we do recommend to take it easy around the painted surfaces for 7 days to allow sufficient curing time of the paint.
when wallpapering we like to use two types of paste
For lining walls we will use a self mixed wallpaper paste. This allows us to mix the paste to the viscosity we need to ensure complete adhesion to the wall. Then self mix sachets tend to go further than ready mix and is more cost effective for the clients if we are just lining the walls.
As for feature wall papers we will use ready mixed paste and the manufacturer of the papers recommended paste. This is because the recommended ready mixed paste will limit the shrinkage of the feature paper. self mixed paste is no good for feature wallpapers as it will shrink the paper whilst drying leaving unsightly gaps.
